Zhiyu Pu | Before I go into any of these tips I think it is safe to say that you should always check your doctor first.
But beyond that lets jump in.
I use to be overweight and when I began working out there were a lot of questions I had. I did not know how to use the equipment, I did not know how to eat, I did not know if I could actually do the workouts, I did not even know if I would be able to do 1 push up or 1 sit up.
Zhiyu Pu – So when I walked into the gym I had many fears and insecurities, which only heightened when I went to my first piece of equipment and started working out. It was horrible!
So I wanted to give you 5 workout tips for overweight people.
1) I chose to do some in-home workouts first. I actually went and bought some updated workout videos. Not the 80 style workout tapes with the women with big hair and tights. But something that was being produced at least in this day and age. I knew I was not going to be bouncing around with all the extra weight I had, but I knew I wanted to start losing some weight and getting fit. So I started with home workout tapes.
2) Venture Out Into the gyms: Once I became comfortable with some of the moves and what my body could do and what it couldn’t do, I began venturing out to the gym. I took the tour they offer when you join and actually had the guy show me each piece of equipment and how it should be set. They will help you out and just work through any feelings you may have about people watching you. As an overweight woman it can be very uncomfortable at times, but this really helped me out a lot. Just have fun with it.
3) Be sure you show up. I can not tell you how much this one thing is almost the entire battle of losing weight. You have to show up. I wanted to be all gung ho about the thing but forced myself to work into a routine. First it was twice a week. It was really that way because I was so sore, but after a few weeks I added a day. I went until I hit 4 days a week.
4) Find someone to go with you. Find someone who you can learn this stuff together with and will come get you when you say no. It is so nice to have this built into the equation when the tough times come.
5) Be sure to change your eating habits one week at a time. Don’t attempt to remove your entire kitchen all at once. This is a process and will take some time to change all your habits. For instance, if you can drink five cokes in a day. By the end of the week get to one coke a day. Then move onto diet coke or substitute it for something else. Get the picture.
